‘Ability Beyond Boundaries’ Highlights Journeys of Families Living with Disabilities
VEREENIGING, GAUTENG – In line with South Africa’s Disability Rights Awareness Month (observed annually from 3 November to 3 December), Phothiza Holdings proudly supported the profoundly impactful event, ‘Ability Beyond Boundaries,’ held on 8 November 2025. The event, hosted by community advocate Naura Modungwa and co-host Mosele Maloka, brought together families and inspirational speakers at the Inyama Restaurant, Riviera Hotel, in Vereeniging—conveniently located just next door to the Phothiza Holdings offices.
The event served as a powerful platform where guest speakers and families shared raw, honest stories of their journeys living with disabilities. Naura Modungwa, whose son Tshegofatso lives with cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and Mosele Maloka, whose parents are both deaf and for whom sign language is her first language, led the moving discussions.
A Silent Language, A Unified Space
The atmosphere was one of profound love and unity, amplified by the presence of several deaf and deaf-and-mute attendees. Observing the attendees communicating fluently in sign language highlighted the beauty and power of this often-unacknowledged silent language.
The testimonies shared by parents whose children have various disabilities were deeply moving, leaving few dry eyes in the room. The event’s significance was further underscored by the presence of guests from the SABC, confirming its role as a vital eye-opener for the community.
Phothiza Holdings: Full Team Commitment
Phothiza Holdings showed its deep commitment to the cause through comprehensive staff involvement:
- George Lephoto, director of Phothiza Holdings, delivered the opening prayer.
- Portia Mawai, Phothiza Holdings spokesperson, served as the event MC.
- The company provided crucial sound services, with Philip managing the sound setup and Tshepang handling registration.
- Other dedicated staff members in attendance included Constance van Niekerk and Nonhlanha.

A True Friend of PH: Building Relationships
The collaboration between the hosts and Phothiza Holdings is built on a foundation of long-standing community support. Naura Modungwa and Mosele Maloka first met in March at the Phothiza Holdings 3rd Annual Spelling Bee Championship, where Mosele’s son, Thato, emerged as the winner in the Grade 10 category.
Naura has been a consistent supporter of Phothiza Holdings’ initiatives, bringing her son Onthatile since the 1st Annual Frankly Spelling Bee Championship. Her dedication extends further: last year, she volunteered her time and efforts to assist with the transport of elderly people to and from the Riviera Hotel for the company’s 16 December elderly people’s Christmas lunch.
Naura Modungwa is a classic example of a “Friend of PH.” At Phothiza Holdings, we firmly believe in building relationships, and we touch and hold. This partnership underscores the company’s mission to be an active, supportive, and reliable pillar in the community it serves.
Phothiza Holdings, We Pledge, We Serve, We Support .
