We are back in Sharpeville, not for the spelling bee or the youth camp, but for Nelson Mandela Day! We have joined the Sharpeville SAPS for 67 minutes on Mandela 2025.
According to SAPS Spokesperson Constable Busi Sango, many stakeholders rallied together for this cause. The list includes the Department of Community Safety, CPF, Youth Desk, Men As Safety Promoters, Gauteng Traffic Wardens, Vaal Community in Action, Indibabo Victim Empowerment, and Lekoa FM. Peter Kele, the Crime Prevention Assistant Manager for Sedibeng District, was also among those present, highlighting the broad support for the initiative. We, Phothiza Holdings, have sponsored soup, bread and our mobile kitchen. Those who tasted the soup say it is delicious! Our office admin agrees!
SAPS Sharpeville spearheaded the entire event under the capable leadership of Acting Station Commander Lt. J.J. Jacobs. The soup drive kicked off at 10 AM, but Cst Sango also mentioned that before dishing out the warm meals, they held a cleaning campaign right here around the police station.
Cst Sango said in conclusion, “We wanted to bring the community closer together and show that our work isn’t just about catching criminals. We’re also deeply committed to tackling the social issues impacting everyone here. Our purpose is to protect you, the public, and we believe that by truly working hand-in-hand, rather than against each other, we can accomplish amazing things.”
